Description
As spinners we have access to numerous types of fiber preparations, but each preparation can be paired with a range of different drafting methods to produce different qualities and properties in your handspun yarn. In this workshop you will learn about the properties inherent in different fiber preparations and which drafting methods and techniques work well in combination.

The difference between carded and combed fiber
The qualities and properties of carded and combed fibers
Drafting techniques such as long draw, short draw, forward and backward draw
Woolen and Worsted spinning
Suggestions on when to use each fiber preparation and drafting method
Materials needed:
Yarn making tool: (working spinning wheel, electric spinner, or drop spindle)
Spinning wheel oil (for spinning wheels and electric spinners)
1 Empty bobbin with leader (for wheels and e-spinners)
Combed top (1 oz)
Rolags, batts or carded roving (1 oz)
Optional:
Hand carders
Hand combs
Carding cloth (scrap piece of denim works well)
Magnifying glass for observing fiber properties
